Processing operation: Processing of personal data on the MenABLE portal.

European Schoolnet takes the protection of your privacy seriously. We exclusively collect, store, and retain the personal data of our website users to provide the best possible service and treat this data with the utmost care.  This Privacy Notice is subject to EU Regulation 2016/679 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (hereinafter called “GDPR”). European Schoolnet is responsible (as the “data controller”) for processing your personal data as explained in this Privacy Notice.

This Privacy Notice outlines the policies by which European Schoolnet collects, manages, and uses the personal data provided to us by the website users, and how users may exercise their data protection rights.


You directly provide European Schoolnet with most of the personal data collected through the MenABLE website. We collect your personal data when you:

  • visit this website.
  • follow links to voluntarily register for events/campaigns announced on the website from time to time.
  • participate in surveys and questionnaires which are conducted through this website from time to time.
  • contact us directly via social media, email or by phone.


When you use this website, communicate with us via phone, e-mail, or any other digital communication channel, register for events/campaigns published on the website, participate in surveys/targeted consultations posted on the website we will collect and use your personal data to:

  • improve the MenABLE website’s content and the overall user experience within this project via analytics (e.g. tracking user behaviour, visitor metrics).
  • detect security incidents, protect against malicious activity and fix system errors.
  • publish news, events and related project information on the website.
  • facilitate the communication between you and us.
  • assist you in the registration for events/campaigns.
  • enable us to use the responses you provided to surveys/targeted consultations.

To achieve the above-mentioned purposes, we process the following personal data in the following circumstances:

  1. Website visits: As a general policy, you are not required to disclose your personal data as a condition for using this website. No basic identity information, such as your name, address, or email address is automatically collected from your visit to the website, however, we may automatically collect personal data such as your IP address which is collected by the webserver in access logs in order to allow us to intercept and block requests coming from suspicious network segments as further detailed under point e below.
  2. Contacting us: We collect personal data such as your name, email address, postal address, phone number, professional title, organisation name, and any other personal data you choose to share when you communicate with us via email, MenABLE’s social media accounts, or phone. If you choose to contact us directly, we will only use the personal data you have provided to us, for the purposes of responding to your message or managing your requests.
  3. Registration for events/campaigns: The website may advertise various events, campaigns and activities which are organized by European Schoolnet and may indicate where you can register for these. These events, campaigns and activities will have their own privacy statement detailed in the registration form concerned. The types of personal data that will be collected from the events, campaigns and activities promoted on the website are described in the respective privacy statements.

We use a third-party service provider (as the ”data processor”) Aventri/Stova to organise event registration and to send emails about an event to registered participants. The processing of your personal data for the purposes of registering to an event will be subject to the privacy statement of each event as well as to the terms and conditions of Aventri/Stova’s privacy policy. European Schoolnet has signed a specific service agreement with Aventri/Stova to ensure your data will not be transferred outside the EU and provide further coverage compared to Aventri/Stova’s regular terms and conditions: Privacy Policy Stova/Aventri.

We also use a third-party service provider (as the ‘’data processor’’), Microsoft Teams, to organise our online events. MS Teams is a feature of Microsoft 365. The processing of your personal data for the purposes of participating in our online events will be subject to the privacy statement of each event as well as to the terms and conditions of Privacy Policy Microsoft Teams.

  1. Links to surveys/targeted consultations: When you visit our website, you may want to voluntarily participate in surveys and targeted consultations which we may launch from time to time and make available via a link on our website. The types of personal data (e.g. name, surname, e-mail address, image/sound data) we will collect from surveys and targeted consultations conducted through the website are described in the respective privacy statements.

We use Survey Monkey, a third-party service provider (as the ‘’data processor”) to process our surveys and targeted consultations and this processing may additionally be subject to their own terms and conditions which can be accessed at Privacy Policy SurveyMonkey.

The specific privacy statements for event/campaign registrations and for surveys/targeted consultations  as mentioned in points (c) and (d) respectively will also detail your data protection rights in respect to the data processing, the purpose of the processing, with whom the data will be shared, and the period of time for which the data will be kept. The privacy statements will also specify how you can consent to collect your data, where you can get further information on the privacy statements and the official organisations to which you can complain in the event that you feel that your data rights have been infringed. 

  1. Information collected by automated means: So as to understand how visitors use and engage with the website, we collect information anonymously and report website trends without identifying individual visitors through the use of Matomo (web analytics software). Matomo is an open-source web analytics software installed on European Schoolnet servers to ensure a visitor’s online behaviour is not shared with advertising companies or other third parties. In addition, the MenABLE website makes use of WordPress which is owned and operated by Automattic, Inc. For more information please see the relevant Privacy Policy WordPress and Cookie Policy WordPress.

Some parts of this website use the services of video hosting platforms (e.g. YouTube) to present embedded content. These platforms may use cookies to collect usage and user-related information should you decide to view the content hosted on these platforms. Access to the full personal data is strictly limited to European Schoolnet designated staff. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Apart from the third-party service providers covered by this Privacy Notice, no third parties will receive your data, unless this is explicitly disclosed to you in advance in a separate privacy policy or unless we are required to do so by the granting authority or by law, e.g., in the framework of a judicial enquiry or at the request of the competent legal authorities.

The third-party service providers indicated in this Notice process your personal data only on behalf of European Schoolnet. When we use a third-party service provider, we only disclose to them any personal data that is necessary for them to provide their services.

European Schoolnet may punctually use contractors (e.g. consultants or experts) to support with tasks related to the optimisation and functioning of the menABLE website. Such data processors are contractually bound to process personal data on behalf of and in line with the instructions of European Schoolnet and to keep confidential any data they process and protect it from unauthorised access, use and retention. They are given access to the personal data on a ”need to know principle”.


Your personal data may be transferred to and stored at a destination outside the European Union (‘’EU’’)/European Economic Area (‘’EEA’’) in which the third-party service providers specified in this Privacy Notice are located or have servers.

Your personal data may also be accessible to parties outside the EU/EEA via MenABLE’s social media pages and via video hosting platforms when videos are embedded in this website. An exception might also be where you are located outside the EU/ EEA, and we need to follow-up with you regarding a query. Apart from the above-mentioned circumstances, your personal data are not sent outside the EU/EEA by us.


In terms of personal data processing activities for the purpose of facilitating communication between you and us, we rely on our legitimate interest to be able to respond to requests, questions, or remarks when you contact us via social media, phone, or e-mail.

In terms of personal data processing activities for the purpose of improving the website’s content and the overall experience, we rely on our own legitimate interest in providing an interesting online space to our visitors.

In terms of personal data processing activities for the purposes of detecting and preventing malware, illegal content, and other types of misuse, we rely on our legitimate interest to keep our online presence safe.

When you register for any event/campaign promoted on this website, and participate in surveys/targeted consultations through this website, your consent serves as the legal basis for our processing of your personal data.

Your personal data are only processed for as long as needed to achieve the purposes which are described above. As a general rule, we will de-identify your personal data when these are no longer necessary for the purposes outlined above or when the retention period as explained in this section has expired.

All personal data we collect through our interactions with you via the website, phone, and email will be kept for as long as required to communicate with you, but also to keep an historical archive of our communications.

For our events/campaigns and surveys/targeted consultations the period of retention will be indicated in the separate privacy policy for the processing activity concerned.

We process only the personal data required for achieving the purposes we have communicated to you, and we restrict access to your personal data to European Schoolnet’s designated staff and specified third parties with a business need to know.

We have also put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.
